FPL: Can You Survive Without Chelsea’s Defenders?

What’s FPL this season without having one, two, or even three Chelsea players in your team this season? Even better? Chelsea’s defenders. Asides from just defending, Chelsea’s defensive lineup accounts for 13 of their 30 goals in the Premier League. If your FPL team is yet to boast of one, here’s what you’ve been missing.

Reece James (£6.1)

…accounts for 4 of Chelsea’s 30 goals this season. James also has 4 assists and 4 clean sheets. His best game week point return came in GW10 (21 points) against Newcastle. As at GW12, he is Chelsea’s leading FPL player.

Antonio Rudiger (£5.9)

…7 clean sheets amounts for most of Rudiger’s points so far this season. He has scored 2 goals and has 1 assist. His best GWs are GW5 and GW12 (14 points).

Edouard Mendy (£6.3)

…Chelsea’s goalkeeper Mendy is, as at GW12, the best goalkeeper in the FPL. And this is massively due to his impressive 7 clean sheets from 12 of Chelsea’s games. GW4 against Aston Villa and GW8 against Brentford (both 9  points) are his best GWs. He has missed only one of Chelsea’s games this season – GW5.

Ben Chilwell (£6.0)

…Chilwell did not start featuring for Chelsea this season until GW7, and even at that, has scored 3 times, assisted once, and gotten 4 clean sheets. His best point return remains GW8 (15 points) when he scored Chelsea’s only goal in a 1-0 against Brentford.

Trevoh Chalobah (£4.8)

…despite starting just 6 of Chelsea’s 12 games this season, Chalobah has scored 2 goals, and gotten 5 clean sheets this season. His best GW was Chelsea’s GW1 fixture against Crystal Palace (14 points).

Thiago Silva (£5.5)

…this center-back has raked in 5 clean sheets and scored 1 goal for the Blues this season. His only goal this season in a 3-0 win against Tottenham in GW5, meant 15 points would be his highest point return in any GW.

César Azpilicueta (£5.8)

…despite not scoring a goal like other Chelsea defenders, Azpilicueta has assisted others 3 times and gotten 4 clean sheets so far this season. He assisted twice in Chelsea’s 3-1 GW7 win over Southampton to get his highest points return – 10.

Marcos Alonso (£5.6)

…the last time Alonso featured in a game for Chelsea was in GW6, but before then recorded 1 goal, 1 assist, and 4 clean sheets. In GW1 and GW 5, Alonso went all out in recording double-figure hauls – 15 points in GW1, and 10 points in GW5.

Andreas Christensen (£4.9)

…while Christensen might be a member of Chelsea’s defensive force yet to record a goal or an assist this season, the defender’s 5 clean sheets still make him rank higher than some of the Blues midfielders and forwards in the FPL. GW1 (7 points) remains his best GW.
